Passive Di's

Hi,

I'm a n00b here with a problem. I'm wanting to get myself a budget passive Di for my active bass. I'm wanting to put it between the head and cab of my Ashdown 5 fifteen rig. I'm looking at either the Proel db1p or the Dbx db10 or the Peavey Sdi. Any views?

Any reason it has to be passive? The Countryman type 85 is unbeatable for that application. I can't really imagine a situation in which phantom power wouldn't be available.

Dual use with my acoustic guitar, so wanting to stick to passive. I'm in the UK so countryman isn't really available from what I've seen and I'm trying to only spend upto £70. Awkward I know

Both the Countryman and Radial are great DI boxes.

Look for a used Radial JDI there. They can be had for $100-$120 here; have to think they're probably 100-110 GBP used there (Looks like the going rate for a new one is 192 GBP). A little more than you want to spend, I know, but it's worth it.

Don't get too hung up on passive vs. active. The theory is you use a passive DI with an active bass, and an active DI with a passive bass. But I've done it both ways with great success. Either way, a used Radial JDI is a good plan and worthwhile to have in the gig bag if your amp breaks at a gig.

This the exact setup I use and it works very well.

then i would suggest active DI...yes if you have $200 bucks for a JDI then go for it!...but honestly a PRO48 Active DI will still be a solid DI box...

the reason i suggest active for this purpose is that your accoustic guitar will sound brighter and more full, than through a passive, whilst not really hindering the active bass tone...
