PBass pickup upgrade recommendation... old school...

What's up everybody? Looking to upgrade the pups on my MIM p Bass. Just wondering if I should go for something in particular if I wanted to get an old school vibe (late 60's/early 70's)? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I love my Antiquities II. I'll never know if there's a better pickup out there - I have a hard time believing there is and I'm never going to change it out. My own recommendation. The Duncan/Basslines SPB-1 is very, very good and is more affordable.

Name some bands you like. I love Seymour Duncan pickups, and I don't think you can go wrong with anything they make!

For your era, I would say this:
  • SPB-1 - Vintage P Bass looks like a great choice!
  • 11044-16 - Antiquity II Looks like it would be an upgrade, but the price is higher and I have not heard of anyone saying it is any 'better' than an SPB-1, though it is more 'authentic'.
  • 11044-11 - As above, but twin coil for a more rock tone.
  • 11044-12 - Same again, but with raised 'A' pole pieces, probably better for blues or country.

In short, SPB-1 is probably your ticket to happiness unless you want to shell out a little more to get a more accurate look and sound, and a tone leaning in a slightly different direction.

I replaced the pickup in one of my pbass's with a fender vintage reissue pickup. I can't remeber what year, but it sounds good.

I would also recommend Lindy Franlin pickups. My Lakland has a lindy fralin in it and it's sounds awesome. I've heard he will customize wind/wound your pickup too.

I'd probably lean toward the buttery deep tones a la Motown & Stax. I dont want to box myself in one way or the other though. Versatility is good.

FYI I got some LaBella flats on my pbass.

Tone wise, what would be the difference between these 2?
