Pbass Pickups

I saw this video of Yanni's (I know, let it go) bassist... and his Pbass (if memory serves) sounded so damn good.. It really cut through the mix, and it sounded... woody, I suppose.

I'm gonna search around for the video, but if anyone could reccomend some pickups, I'd appreciate it.

I'm currently using DiMarzio split P's, which are nice and loud. They have a solid tone. But this bass sounded so damn good...

Found it!

There's a bass solo somewhere in there. I know his sound is more than just pickups: Body woods, strings, amps, technique, etc...

But I'm sure I can find something close to that by changing pickups.

Um i have Seymour Duncan SPB-3s in my Pbass, made it sound a lot nicer

So, Yanni's bass player plays a P/J configured bass that looks like it probably has a pre-amp in it. The J P/U at the neck is what adds that bite that he has (and it actually doesn't sound like he's using the P P/U much at all).

And wow... the tapping in that solo... just wow. What a wank.

From what I've heard, Nordtrands have a very vintage sound... very round sound.

The J pup is at the bridge not the neck....i'm sure thats what you meant to say. I definately hear some splitcoil goin on during the solo.

it sounds very like guy pratt doing pink floyd stuff.

so i'd say alder body, maple neck/board. obviously PJ with a little P rolled off. standard active eq would do but a sweepable mid would help to nail that tone.

basically a P bass special. but i bet those were lace sensor or alembic activators in his bass, just too crisp for my liking. just done a search on the bass player turns out he sponsors dimarzio so id say try them
