who here is allergic to peanuts or nuts in general? why is this so common anymore? when i was a young un you never did hear anything about bein allergic to peanuts. my daughter is allergic to em. poor child will never know the taste of a peanutbutter sammich or a snickers or other candy bars.

peanut allergies.

Thankfully, I'm not allergic to peanuts.
I do, however, have a severe allergy to sesame seeds. Had to go to the emergency room once. Not fun. Luckily, sesame isn't that hard to avoid.
If she's just allergic to peanuts, almond butter and cashew butter are good alternatives.

Allergies suck, period.
It sucks more because so many products use peanuts these days (because they RULE!), so she really has to watch out.

i'm allergic to nuts and a whole lot of other fruits. however, this is only true if the fruit is raw, or uncooked. can't eat fresh walnuts, but i can eat roasted peanuts. same for tomatoes, kiwis, apples, strawberries, mango, rucola, whole bunch of salads and fruits. unfortunate but thats the way it is. i think peanutbutter would be safe, but then i hate that stuff anyways so i don't really know.
I work at panera and we have to make the pb&j sandwiches on a piece of paper and change our gloves after making the sandwich to ensure nothing that touches regular sandwiches gets contaminated.
No offense to anyone, but I've lost all faith in society when PB&J isn't considered a normal sandwich.FunkSlap89 said:

It's peanut butter and this marshmallow spread stuff. I tried one and it was kind of strange, not really my thing. But I like my peanut butter sandwiches without anything else on them. Don't taint it with jelly.

well, at panera, a pb&j sandwich is probably the least common of all the sandwiches i make, so its just not a "regular" sandwich at the particular place i work.

My father has a mild peanut allergy. He really loves peanut butter though and will have it on rare occassions. It's normally followed by a little throat clearing.

We got an Indian meal at work one night and I had a Pashwerie nan bread. The last one I had was made with Coconut (which is fine) that one that night was made with Almonds.
I was sick as a dog all night and didnt know why untill I found out a few weeks ago they use Almonds.

As others have posted, for some reason this is more prevalent, and unfortunately, potentially deadly. It's no longer possible in our local elementary schools to send in baked goods with your kid because of potetial food allergy issues. Cafeterias have special tables for the allergy kids to sit at. Just touching some other kids Peanut Butter can lead to a severe reaction. Epi Pens have become fairly common in schools.
My niece has this allergy. My brother (her dad) buys peanut butter when he and his wife have an annual get away weekend.
I now have a second niece (from a different brother), who seems to show allergys to Tree Nuts, not legume nuts.
