Peavey Black Widow 1504

Hello everyone,

I have a 4ohm 1504 Black Widow that started buzzing pretty loudly. I took the magnet off and cleaned the foam out of the voice coil groove and from the voice coil itself. There was some pretty sticky black gunk on an area of the voice coil from the foam I assume. The speaker still sounds good if you ignore the buzz. Any thoughts on what could be wrong or what else I can try?

Yes, the foam has deteriorated and got in the voice coil and melted from the heat. you will need to get some acetone and wipe the coil clean with it. You will probably need to clean the gap with it as well. Make sure all the trash is out of the gap by folding some masking tape and sweeping it around inside the gap. Keep doing this with fresh tape until it comes out completely clean. Check inside the dust cap for any foam trapped inside the edges.

While you have it all apart, make sure the spyder suspension is glued down all around the basket. They tend to come partially unglued over time and can also make a buzzing sound. You can use super glue for that.
