PEAVEY CIRRUS BXP BASS - QUESTION FOR THE EXPERTS AND EXPERIENCED

Hey bass friends )

This is my first post so please go easy on the newbie lol

I just bought a cirrus bxp 5 string and read somewhere on this forum that these particular models are inferior compared to the US models simply because of the "not so awesome" preamp section?

assuming it is true, i'm wondering if it would be possible to replace my preamp for a US model and if so how much would it cost ??

hoping someone could respond soon as i have a recording session next week and wouldn't mind giving it a little mod before going in!

I was playing a friends cirrus bxp 5er last night and I gotta say: "That thing rocks!"

Weak preamp? I never noticed. I couldn't find any flaws with it other than it has one too many strings.

Does it sound good to you as is? If so then no mod needed. Dont worry about what others say about it, if you like the sound then keep it the way it is. Personally I think the Cirrus BXP Model is a very fine instrument stock!

I've played several BXP's, and I thought they sounded pretty damn good. The ONLY thing I was disappointed with is the necks didn't feel (IMO) as nice as the US model's necks do.

and trust me i never intended to go as far as slamming 600$ for a bass after all my studio expenses this month lol this was a total illogical impulsive move considering my broke ass

So that's how much i love this thing.It sounds so amazing and came at the perfect time when i needed that sound the most so i'm not saying that it's weak or anything

but i'm always up for improvements if there's a way i cant get the most out of my instrument

As always, I'd suggest saving up a shade more money and simply buying a used Cirrus. The quality of Cirrus basses are top notch. The BXPs aren't quite as consistent. Some are great, some are weak, most are ok. As a Cirrus guy, I wasn't too impressed with the few Cirrus and Millennium BXPs I've played.

I've played a Cirrus 5 BXP several times at a local music store and thought it played great.I never have plugged it in so I don't know how it sounds but I still would like to have one someday.

I recently bought a replacement preamp from Peavey for my USA Millennium 5 Plus because the blend pot didn't rotate towards the neck pickup all the way.It's the same preamp as the the custom shop Cirrus basses with the variable midrange and they only charged me about $55.It would fit the BXP Cirrus too but I think you would have to enlarge the hole for the midrange control pot as it's wider than the others.Also you would have to get a set of contol knobs from Peavey to fit the mids double pot.Very inexpensive upgrade for a preamp as great as this.

I think a regular US Cirrus pre would go right in the BXP without mods.If you change to either preamp though be sure to get a wiring diagram from Peavey for the preamp because the preamp isn't marked on it what goes where.Mine was a wire to wire swap because I was replacing my pre with the same one.If you are handy with a soldering iron it's a pretty easy install.If you want to do the mod the best thing would be to get hold of Peavey customer service or tech support and ask them if they would sell you one.When I ordered mine they asked for the serial number of the bass and were very helpful.

Hi, there's 3 wires coming out of a Peavey Cirrus pickup, and I thought the two out of the black wire connected to ground and the red was positive. Can someone tell me which wire is which? Replacing a blown preamp and it's not working so far.

Maybe you got your answer already, but if not, the red wire is the 18v power feed. The other is signal +ve & ground/shield.
