does anyone have one of these? i did a search and couldn't find much info.

there is a used one at a local shop for WAY cheap. it's a purple transparent, has a black j-style pickguard and two soapbars. it's active. i didn't plug it in, but i sat down and played it for a minute and it feels amazing. nice string spacing, and it appears to be very well set up.

it's been there for about a month that i know of, and i couldn't believe it was still there.

i have uncontrollable GAS pains over this bass, and i've been thinking about it since i saw it a week or so before christmas. the price is really good for a USA made instrument. haven't had a 5 for a while or much use for one really, but there is a song my band has been working on where a low D would be great and i would rather not tune down.

the only drawback is that it is EXTREMELY heavy. like, oh my god heavy.

should i pull the trigger? does anyone have one of these things that can offer me any insight?

this would bring my bass total up to 7, which is a lot. but man, is it ever nice.

man, i'm just going to buy it. it's too nice to pass up! i would kick myself forever if i let this one go.

I have one. It is a nice bass, very well made. It weighs about 11 pounds so it is on the heavy side. But the weight comes from being built like a tank. The active pickpus are similar to the Cirrus pickups but have more bite and don't have the compressed sound. The purple kind of grows on you over time.

well, i went and picked it up today. it's mighty fine, of course i will need some new strings.

i usually play elixirs, so i'll probably throw a set on this. elixir offers 4-string sets and then you buy the B you want, if i went with their heavier B (.135" instead of the usual .130") would it firm the B up a little? i haven't had a 5'er for a while, and when i did have one last, i was playing a different genre of music and didn't care too much about such a thing. now that my tastes have changed, i wouldn't mind something a little less flabby.

if anyone can answer that, i would be psyched.

okay, a question. the owner's manual for this bass available as a PDF from peavey's website says it's a 34" scale. i measure it as a 35" scale- whether i go from the nut to the 12th fret or from the nut to the bridge saddle, it's 35". which is weird i guess but not the question i had. my question: does a 35" scale merit an extra-long set of strings?

Depends on the strings. I know DR fit a 35" scale no problem.

GHS Boomers for 34" scale will just barely fit on it. It probably depends on the brand/series of strings. A .130 B string is just fine, .135 would be really taught.
