Peavey Forum?

I'm intrigued with the Peavey Forum over at BassNW, but I've not read/experienced much with them. Anyone play 'em? I've become a big Peavey fan in general, so willing to give it a shot... but would love to hear some first-hand opinions.

Is the Forum the same as Forum AX?

I've tried searching through here, but searching for the word 'forum' on a message board doesn't work all that well. :D

I've always used Peavey practice and studio amps. I've picked up an old Foundation S about two years ago. The bass is tired but plays surprisingly well for its condition. I've recently dismantled the bass to recondition it with the hope that it will sound better when finished. I am also going to look at another used Foundation next week. I'm hoping that one will be in better condition. But I'm pretty sold on Peaveys now. I always have been on their amps.

There are several versions of the forum. The first forum was a Fury with a jazz pickup in the bridge position(Peavey's precision special). IIR there were passive and active versions, but the active just provided boost and the tone controls were VVT for both. The next Forum had a soapbar in the middle position and was active with active tone controls. The Forum AX was a two pickup (soapbars) active bass that reminds me a great deal of a MM Sabre bass. I have played the early Forums, but haven't played an AX, and since I tend to be a passive bass player I doubt that I ever will. I will say that Peaveys are some of the best playing basses out there and are worth a great deal more than they go for. If you like the Forum you tried I would get it.

I always thought they looked Sabreish too. It's the control plate mostly I think. One thing I recall is that most Forum's are extremely heavy, T-40 HEAVY. The one at BassNW looks just like one someone used to have on this board. I think he called it Grape Ape.

I own two Fury basses, the ones made in the last two years of production, with painted necks, mainly because I like a painted neck. I think they are not as sticky, as oil, or clear coated necks. One has Bartolini's in it, the other has the standard Peavey P-bass pickup. I love their thin necks. Thinner than a Jazz neck and fast as hell. I had a Foundation 5, it was THE best bass, I've ever had in my hands. Best playability, of any bass I've ever played, but I just couldn't get used to the 5 string, and sold it to a TBer just 2 weeks ago. Peavey basses are fantastic.

I picked up a Cirrus BXP 5 about a year ago (my 1st 5) added a Grind BXP 5 about 6 months later, & just added an '89 Foundation to the Peavey arsenal. Prices were right on all of them, & they are great players.

I played Peavey amps for about 15 years, never even considered trying their basses. Now I have moved to Carvin for amplification, & discovered Peavey's basses...hmmmm...

I didn't mean to turn this into a Peavey love thread, but I'm glad it is. :)

Yep, that's the one, or its twin brother. And they ain't kidding about heavy, it's T-40 and then some. But man, does it play and sound great. Very modern/punchy, so not for the purists. Thin neck for a fiver, but still feels substantial. I prefer the narrow string-spacing, so it sure feels like a win. Would get me into the USA Peavey club, too. :D

My first official bass, the one not borrowed from my older bro, was a black Peavey Dyna Bass. It was my workhorse for ten plus years, until it got stolen. I always loved that bass, it had an incredible sound and was soo easy to play, I finally broke down and got a replacement last month, the Red Peavey Dyna Bass (compliments of fellow TB'er Jugbandblues).

From everything I here, the Forum for sale at BassNW is a monster bass, and I'm pissed as hell that I don't have the spare change to buy it!:mad:

OP, get that bass. I hear it is heavy, but that it definitely gets an aggressive Sabre style tone.:bassist::cool::)

I have two of them and they are great basses if you don't mind the weight. They weigh around 11 pounds. The Forum 5 and Forum AX are almost identical: same pickups, same preamp, even the same weight. The one at BassNW looks to be in great shape and their price is good for one in that condition.
