Peavey Fury P bass, age?

I don't know Peavey too well, is this an 80's USA Peavey or a more modern import? Never had a Peavey and heard lots of good things about the older ones.

EDIT: Seems to be a 1995 2nd gen USA Peavey Fury. Block letter headstock.

All Fury P's are MIA. The 90s ones will have a split-coil P pickup and the 80s ones will have the slant/super ferrite (I think, I'm less familiar with the 80s models). The later Fury's have two soapbars and a quilted top. You cannot possibly confuse them. Look up a Peavey Fury VI on google for examples. For the record, those suck. I had one as my first 6er and it made me think all B strings must suck when just the Peavey import B string sucks.

A pretty decent bass, a P with a Jazz like neck. Had one briefly, I think you can get them for around $200, I don't know how much they go for these days, but a great value for a well made US bass.

Local ad asking $225 , seems fair but I had no clue what neck feel would be like. I might go get it, I only have one other maple neck P and it sounds really cool (considering I'm not big on P basses). Interesting.

Same where I live. Seeing a lot of basses that people usually hold on to go up for sale, seeing more vintage basses than usual.

$225 seems high to me but the example is pretty clean and the prices have been climbing. I paid $80 CDN for mine two years ago. For what it's worth, I find the Fury P to be extremely over-rated on TB. It is a great bass for the price with great upper fret access but it feels cheap and the pickup is scooped to crap. This was the only P bass I ever struggled to get heard in the mix. It was also the only P bass my bandmates ever complained about.

I've decided to pass on this one. I buy and sell used at prices where I'd break even just to try things out for fun, and usually catch great deals. My feeling this is just a decent average bass and price.

I generally see nice ones under $200. But if you like a jazz neck on a P bass then I like these a lot. I didn't think the original pickups were bad, but they were unsheilded. So I put Bill Lawrence PUPs in mine and it came alive. Definitely cuts thru the mix and I play it and an SR5 out most often. Best part is I have very little invested. So it goes to outdoor gigs and or questionable locations.

I bought one exactly like this in the early 90's as a back up. Played a ton of shows with it. Never really fell in love with the neck or the tone but it was reliable and did the job. I wasn't tore up when I passed it on to a young upcoming high schooler who fell in love with it. Not bad for $200 new I guess. I think the $400 Fretless Squire I bought last year is a better guitar though. IMHO.

Hay I got one of those. Mine is black also. I found a red first series slant pickup in the local music store he wants $350 for it it is nice 8.5+. I played it, my fury with pups sounds better.
