After I got mine, with the 1516, I had planned on getting a stick. I figured it would be a perfect setup for one. Never happened though, RL got in the way.

I would agree it would be nice to have some rotary controls for tone shaping instead of just that 7-band EQ.
If I take my rack to a gig I have a sansamp RBI and processing I use in front of it, so I just leave it flat. But I just took it last Sunday going into the 212, and was suprised on how good I got it sounding
Just wanted to finally post a few pics of my amp and what im running with it. With the processing, the amp sounds very up to date and easily powers two GK cabs for small to medium sized clubs. I have yet to get the amp past 4 in any club ive played. The RBI does a great job of warming up the sound and getting a little tubeyness going on. Having the ability to turn either cab up makes it so I can get the blend I like. Its not my SVT but it really sounds good. I just leave the eq flat for the most part, and tweak it a little if needed. So far im very happy with the sound.
Edit to add I started biamping that system, crossing over at 200, and the sound came alive! Now I can run the crunch a little more and dial it back so it's not so edgy, and fill out with the bottom cab. It's a really cool amp. I will be getting the geddy Lee preamp when it comes out, and I think it's going to really sound monsterous. This amp might end up being my main gigging amp again after 30 years. Who would have guessed?

Hey, just signed up, i have a Peavey Megabass 400w head and i use an old Peavey Earthmover cabinet with an 18" Black Widow
My crossover frequency is set at .8k where it has been since i bought the amp used, Is that where it should be set?

There is no right or wrong place to set it if your cabs can handle the frequencies. I have mine set to .2, but I do that to get more of the lower end through the top cab. If your cab has an internal crossover for horns and run full range without issue, then you can set the crossover where it sounds good to you, assuming you are running two sends or two different cabs.
Hi Guys, May I have a Number. My Name is Dan, I'm 57 years old and have owned and loved my Megabass since new in 1991. It is nothing short of awesome. It can make almost any Bass sound good..... I had a few years where I did not play, but I never ever considered selling it even though I sold most of my Basses..... Here is a recent Pic of the "Old Girl'
recently pressed back into service. The Squier had a short life but sounded pretty good through the Mega.....
The only problem I ever had occurred a couple of weeks ago when the Crossover stopped working and now I only have Full Range... I will check it out soon, may only be the switch. (hopefully). The Speakers are an EVM15 and 2x Carvin PS10s with a Boogie Celestion Bullet. in Cabs I built which were CAD Designed by a Friend back in the 90s.....
We did a lot of Gigs and a lot of Miles together including a Near Fatal Crash when I fell asleep at the wheel on the way home from a Gig....... Fortunately we both live on to tell the Tale.....
When I got my MB (with 1516 cab) I thought it would be a great rig for a Stick. Unfortunately, I never got to test that.

It's a prototype from when I was helping Peavey with the design features of this amp. It may not have a serial# but I think there's an old Peavey print ad floating around that has a pic of myself and the amp on it. Btw, I used the sh#t out of that amp for years! It was a pretty ground-breaking bass amp in a lot of ways, especially for it's time. If I remember; very quick responsive digital power amp, both hi and lo impedance inputs, adjustable effects loop, parametric graphic eq, bi-amp w/ selectable crossover frequency, built-in digital chorus, etc. Nice. It was a very useful amp.

Hi all..this could be a tad off topic but if anyone hears of a MB for sale please message me as I can't find any for sale here in Aust. I have been running a Peavey 5 string '91 Dyna Bass guitar through a Peavey 1820 cab (18" BW & 2x10" Scorpions) and it is thunderous...heavy cab needs 2 people to lift it though. (Pic included without the DynaBass 5 string). I dearly would love a Megabass head if anyone hears of a good working one for sale. Thanks for listening.
Guitar center had one on its used gear list a few weeks ago. It was back a ways but still looked like it was actively for sale. If you haven't checked there lately, it might be worth a look

Thanks for the tip. I had a quick look and it's still there. They probably wouldnt ship to Oz unless I paid more than the amp is worth even though I would be willing to do so. I fired an email off to them asking anyway. Thanks again.

I would imagine the shipping would be brutal, but I figured you would have taken that into account shipping any piece of vintage gear from the us to oz land. I thought might be to buy a two space rack from guitar center, have them mount it in the rack, then ship the system. It probably would be a little more expensive, but the fears of having it damaged would be less. Not sure if guitar center would do that or not.
Edit to say they aren't light by any means, but they are built like a tank. Mine is mounted in a three space rack, and is heavier than my six space effects rack loaded. But it sounds great, will run two cabs full range or biamped and won't break. I run a tech21 RBI preamp into it, or an Eden WTDI pre/direct pedal when I don't want to go wireless, and it sounds amazing.
Add my name to the list. I just grabbed one from GC, for $99. I have several different flavors of cabs to run with it. Matching four ohm 2X10? Check. 2x10 wedge? Check. Fearful-like cab, with Eminence 4015LF and FaitalPro 5" mid? Check. Looking forward to hitting this head with either a GV or a TL-FIVE, for some 90s Peavey goodness.
Put a high quality pre amp in front of it and you will be amazed. The preamp is the weak point sound wise on a bullet proof amp system. I run a Tech 21 RBI or an eden WTDI pre amp pedal in front and it adds the missing tone shaping. Not that you can't get a good sound by itself, it just really comes alive with a good pre amp
So, GC failed to inform me that the Megabass I just bought for $99…

Pretty clean amp. Judging by the condition of the rack, I bet this head was racked it's whole life. Everything works. Pots and eq sliders are a bit dirty, but she works. Chorus sounds great.
I stayed away from these when they were new, cuz the 200 watt rating seemed real low. This head is easily very giggable.
