Peavey Midibase

Hello bass community,

I recently bought a Peavey Midibase (without Peavey modules). The bass doesn't work. I then tested the battery: 2.4 V. The pickups are active. No wonder. The battery compartment states that you should follow the instructions when changing the battery to avoid damage. Can someone tell me what to look out for or give me the instructions for changing the battery? That would be great.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards,
Sigi

@Zooberwerx Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, there is a 9V battery. At first glance, the battery is only connected to the active pickups. What puzzles me is the note on the battery cover that says you should definitely read the manual.

I definitely don't want to take any risks and destroy the MIDI board in the bass. I'm attaching a picture of the electronics compartment.

How is a MIDI board normally powered? Via the MIDI cable?

In any case, I've contacted Peavey. I'm curious about their service and will let them know if necessary.

I owned one of these years ago.

Without one of the Peavey MIDIbase rack interface modules, the MIDI can’t be used, period. The bass can be used as a normal bass or the audio can be passed through to the module (there’s an audio output on the back panel.

I don't remember it needing a battery and there is no mention of a battery in the manual (download it here). The volume balance and tone knobs work the same as the Peavey Palaedium.

Notice how small a box the unit is. The bass connects with a proprietary cable. When I had mine, Peavey still had these available as a spare part so I ordered one as a spare.

Do us a favor and remove the smaller battery cover AND pull the battery from the recess....do NOT disconnect from the power harness. Upon visual inspection, you should be able to determine if it's a quick-connect clip OR other. I don't think you'll harm any components in this fashion.

WOW.

Nice to see a photo of mine being used for display purposes.

Changing the battery is no different than with any other active bass. Cover off, battery inserted into battery clip, cover back on.

It's odd you have a sticker with "Read the Manual" as at no place in either the Midibase or MIDIBass Spectrum manual do they mention batteries :D
Nor a mention in the CyberBass manual.

Things stand as @brianrost said. Without the MIDI cable or splitter it's just a normal bass guitar.
