Peavey Millennium BXP 4 Upgraded

This bass was already one of the nicest basses I've ever played, but now with new Bartolini's, Gotoh Tuners, Gotoh high mass bridge, gold knobs and some repairs to the finish, this $200 (Canadian) second hand beater is sooooo nice. I love the punchy Jaco-like Jazz growl and the amazingly thin and fast neck. I couldn't be happier.

No extra work at all. These all just swapped perfectly. The Gotoh 707 Tuners have 1/2" alloy posts, and just drop in the same holes as the original 3/8" post factory tuners. Same for the Goto 201B-4 Bridge. The Bartolini 9CBJD L1/S1
pickups ( Invalid Link Removed ) are the Long/Short hum canceling ones and just screw directly into the original pockets. So easy right?

There are two versions of these Jazz pickups. The other model if Bartolini hum Canceling Jazz pickups is the bright tone ones. These are what I wanted originally, but I got a good deal on the deep time ones, and grabbed them.

The stock pickups in the Millennium BXP's are great, but for me I prefer a more nasal growly Jaco sound, aaaand I was finding that the stock pickups wre uncomfortable on my thumb. Also I just love the look of the barts. This bass ia all classy now. Ha!

I had one of those for a time. I replaced the pickups with MIM Fenders which was a HUGE improvement.
I played the crap out of it until I sold it to a friend and moved on to something else.

I've owned a 4 and 5 string passive Millennium BXP and really liked them both. Great neck profiles for my hands. The only mod I did was replacing strings.... Never felt the need to do more for me.

I would go for the brass nut it would look great and allow you to tailor it to your own taste, but don't expect a huge sonic difference.

Ha! I love it. Yeah, personally I really really love the body shape and the headstock shape. These basses are well made, especially in comparison to the Milestone (Chinese Peavey's) that are terrible (in my opinion). The Millenniums BXP's aren't super solid though. They're pretty lightweight, so if someone is looking for a solid heavy instrument, these aren't them. The Millennium BXP's I find are really loud unplugged, like the wood is extra resonant. I really like that.

Yeah, you're right. It's like dropping a Chevy small block with an Edelbrock carb, a Vance Hines exhaust system and some Foose rims into/onto a Pinto. It still looks like a Pinto, but damn look at those rims and how mean does that sound. Oh, it's gone.

Oh, no I didn't. Should I? Would I notice the difference? I know 500k pots are supposed to give you more gradual sweep in tone and volume. ??

I hear ya. They do sound good and I absolutely LOVE the necks and the body shape. Great basses. However, now with these extra shiny sparkly beautiful components, I am extra in love... like a crow or an octopus. "Oooh, shiny."
