Peavey T20

The T20 with it's single pickup was Peavey's answer to the simplicity of a P-bass. It is a quality instrument on par with the basses that Fndr was offering at the time. Caveats are the truss rods occasionally suffered damage from over tightening, not a manufacturing defect simply abuse from idiots with wrenches.
$250 with a case is a good deal.

Since i bought a T-20 earlier this year, it's become my main gig-bass.

I LOVE the neck. In fact, it's the neck that has made it my #1. It's stupid heavy though, and i usually don't take it to practice because of it. However, the weight translates into a REALLY sturdy feel.

Tone-wise, it may sound weird... but it reminds me of what a Gibson would sound like if they made a P bass. In general the tone's very dark, like most of the Gibbys i've played... simmilar to a Grabber, IMHO.

In my bands, it's either played slightly overdriven, or with a Bluebeard fuzz going on. Sounds great!

It's been played through an array of different amp/cab set-ups and seems to like Tubes and 15's the best.

$250 is an ok price. I payed juuuust under $200 for mine, but had after-marker vol/tone knobs (downgrade) and after-market tuners (upgrade). Because i'm a dork, i bought original peavey knobs for $25 (for the 2) so it's more true to its original form.

All in all, i LOVE the bass, but i can see how it wouldn't be for everyone. If you want a true peavey rendition of a P bass though, i'd look into a Fury or a T45. But, if you want something a little different, a T20 is a great and solid sounding bass, with a unique look that gets a lot of compliments.

I would love to A-B my T-20 to a slanty-ferrite Fury some day...

I'll be getting mine in early November. Cant wait to get my hands on it.
The only thing-the comments on the weight are scaring me a little-I thought it would be LIGHTER than a T-40 because it only has one pickup, much less internal guts and a WAY smaller/less massive bridge.

I guess I'll have to A/B then once I get it.

Oh... it IS lighter than the T40, totally, haha.

However, it does seems a bit heavier than a T45... pretty close to the weight of my ATK, maybe a tad heavier.

Less internal guts means more solid wood...

Nice shot. I'm going to consider it for sure. I currently play a Lakland 55-01 which some consider to be heavy but being 6'4", I had better be able to handle it. :)

If it's physically scuffed or dinged - pass.. this is an average price for one.

They're worth a bit more if not natural and maple neck.

Overall.. much in the Pbass vibe of the era.

OPINION -- Categorically I'd pass - not one of my favorites -- I'm one of the few freaks who doesn't get T series basses (yes I own some) For just a few hundred more there is a a notable difference in the bases (lighter weight, active, better action, pencil necks, hardware etc)

I'd invite you to check into the peavey thread.. there are tons of knowledgeable folks there.

Thanks, it is actually scuffed. I think I'll pass on this one. I believe that it may also be missing a machine head part as well. I'm sure another will come along.
