Peavey tl5 help please

I have just purchased a abused tl5 and am having issues with the wiring! The previous owner tried to do a refinish and butchered the wiring beyond belief. It was actually picking up am radio stations and had no output I have it to where it plays in passive mode but not active I have no tone control at all. If any kind soul could send me some pics of the control cavity I would be forever thankful. This is a 1st gen with super ferrites.

This is a DynaBass but the wiring is the same. The output goes to the shortest terminal on the stereo barrel jack, the wire marked ring goes to the next longest and the output ground goes to the longest. The ground to the bridge is also soldered to the ground terminal of the jack. The shielding in the control pocket and on the pocket cover plate also need to be grounded.

Note that the shield and negative wires from the pickups are separate. There are three wires from each pickup.... red, black, and shield. In order for the pickups to to be in phase and also form a humbucking pair when the blend control is centered, the pickups are wired out of phase electrically...red is used for hot on one PU and black is used for hot on the other PU. The pickups are magnetically out of phase...north up on one, south up on the other. Except for wire length it makes no difference which pickup goes where.

The trim pot adjusts the output of the preamp and is used to balance the output between active and passive modes.

Hope you get it straightened out. I love all of mine. You may have a later version of the PCB but the wiring will be the same. Your battery will be in a separate compartment but that also does not affect the wiring.

I've never seen or heard of that. There may be unused wires in the cables. If you have a multimeter check continuity between the red and black. I don't remember the value but they should read between 5K and 10K Ohms. If you don't have a meter hook up the red, black and shield as shown and see if it works.

i am getting some terrible noise when i turn up the treble knob. doesn't make a do it in passive mode. ive actually got two of these basses. i switched the whole system from one into the other & im still getting the noise. does the shielding need to actually connected to a ground point? ie; solder a wire from it to the ground.... or is there something else that could be causing all this noise. totally silent when both bass & mid knobs are up & the treble is down..... noisy bastard when it is up.

btw, thanks for this posting! ive had these for years & had no clue how to work on them!

I hate to reopen a seemingly dead thread but I just got my TL-5 and have a similar problem with more questions.
My board is slightly different and it looks like the neck is a 3 wire but the bridge is 4 wire. I also wonder if the braided shielding should be grounded. You can't see it in the picture but it is there for at least the bridge pickup.
I also assume that some of those wires need to be resoldered, especially that ugly white wire.

Feedback please?
