Peavey Zodiac BXP and DE Scorpio, same or different neck?

Hey All,

Besides the pickups and pickguard, were there any more differences between these two basses? It seems both were made with the same body woods according to old Peavey brochures. From reading old threads, they are both Chinese made as well.

I recently played a DE Scorpio in-store locally and loved the neck. But the price was not fair for the condition the bass was in. So I've gone looking online for another one, but only see Zodiac BXP available in the used market.

I tried finding old spec sheets to verify if the necks are the same...but can't find confirmation. As the Scorpio is a signature model version, there's a chance it has a unique neck profile...however...there may be a lower since both models were inexpensive imports.

can't imagine any drastic dif, my BXP was pencil thin and saw nobody contending that.
too bad you didn't post a few months ago, I just gave mine away, you'da loved it...

Main differences between the two are.

Country of origin. Most BXP were Korean, DE Scorpios were Chinese.

Pickups. BXP had Korean G&B PJs, DE Scorpios have Duncan QPs. Ellefson's original design called for the G&B pickups, he envisioned a more vintage bass. Peavey's marketing dept insisted on the Duncan as $30 spent on brand names equated to $200 mark up.

Hardware. BXP have 3ply PGs, Scorpios the chrome PG.

Hello everybody,

i am late to the party but I have a Zodiac DE/BXP and it is made in Korea.

It is hard to find informations about these basses (BXP or DE) because there is Chinese and Korea versions (maybe more).

The Zodiac DE is suppose to have the neck with the quick access truss rod but it seems it is the made in Korea one. And now you just find the Chinese version of them. No quick access enventhough it is the DE headstock.

I bought it in the mid 2000s in a store brand new like this (BTW I live in Europe)
I thought it was an aborded project to build a white Zodiac DE. But i can find 2 similar basses like mine on internet (White body, Zodiac DE quick access neck and pickguard), just by searching « Peavey Zodiac DE Scorpio White »

So it is a little bit foggy when it comes to find details on these basses.

If someone has more info I am all ears.

As I said I think there are two kinds of Zodiac DE:

The Chinese ones which are black BXPs with Seymour Duncan pickups and the mirror pickguard.

And the Korean ones, black body, SD pickups, mirror pickguard and the neck with quick access truss rod.
