Hello,

I am trying to get a good sound out of this amp but im having some trouble. Any help with the settings on this beast would be appreciated.

Here is the set up....

Im using a Fender Jazz with roundwounds.
I find that when im playing through the amp I get a lot of clicking and popping and the volume in the spectrum of notes (high to low) isnt consistant.

But im wondering if this is just because im not playing through a compressor.?

Any help would be appreciated.

I played one of these amps for years and never had that problem. I played mine wide open quite a lot.
Clicking and popping sounds like you could have a bad solder joint or possibly a loose wire. But, I'm not an amp tech at all. Hope it's nothing serious.
Try to eliminate the possible problems systematically
- is it a bad cord?
-check pickup height on the bass-click and pops can be caused by strings hitting the pickups, also inconsistent sound low to high can be pickup height too high or too low
-replace bass battery if you have active electronics
- you might want to check the wires that connect the amp to the speaker

I'm sure some folks that actually know what they're doing will chime in here-
but I usually just grab a screwdriver and "gently" set the pickup height where it sounds good to me with the screws that hold the pickup in. With a little work you can balance the E to G string sound and the neck to bridge pickup. But maybe there's some reason not to do it this way, I don't think you can hurt anything unless you over tighten and strip the holes or loosen the screws so much that they fall out
