Pedal Demos!

Sounds great!! Thanks for the demo! Have you had much luck running the OC-2 into the Superego, or dirt AFTER?

The OC-2 into the Superego is rad if you want a crazy sub frequency pad! But it is a bit much most of the time unless you are ending or starting a song. Just gets so BASSY! Haha. Running dirt after the Superego is kind of cool, but I find it to be a bit harsh sometimes. Since the sustained signal of the Superego is so steady in volume it just sounds like a constant fuzzy sound. Not too musical too my ears. But I'm sure there is some cool way to do it!

I meant to say this when I posted the Superego video. If you guys have any requests, questions, or any other comments in regards to these videos, do let me know! My plans for future videos include some of the following:
  • comparison of the OC-2 (analog octaver) to the H9's octaver (digital octaver)
  • Source Audio Manta demo/review
  • H9 reverb/delay algs
Second in line to these videos are these possibilities:
  • MXR Bass Distortion (this will be a short video, not a lot too show, but cool pedal and their aren't a lot of demos)
  • EHX Iron Lung demo (I also plan on replacing this with the new Boss VO-1 in the near future, so possible a comparison video between the two)
  • in depth look at specific H9 algs
  • in depth look at specific Mobius algs
  • other random pedals I can get my hands on (pedals I don't own currently)
Anyway, let me know if you have any other ideas, or have some stuff you'd like to see! When I get the time I'll try to get to them. Also, if you like what you see in regards to these videos, please subscribe to my Youtube channel, it will help me out in the long run (especially if I want to start reviewing pedals I don't own!).

I would be very interested in seeing you do a video on the Manta, and how you use it, plus see how it fits in with some of your other effects.
I've been trying to get into mine more, and really get into the features.

The videos are outstanding by the way.

I really need to do a video on the Manta. Although, I actually don't use it as much as I wish I did. I think I need to dig into it a bit more. It has so much to offer. Sometimes I really miss my Bass Envelope Filter Pro because of the 6 presets! The Manta could cover so much ground if I had a Hub. Currently my two presets are this very Bootsy-like up-envelope filter and a very synthy down envelope. I've been thinking about using my Mobius for the funky up envelope and using the 1st preset on the Manta for either a foot-sweeapable LPF, or a keytalk like vocal envelope. We'll see.

I am using mine is a similar manner, and also miss more than two presets from the BEF pro. I found a sound that works well for playing Chameleon with a synthy down sweep. My second preset, I have a cleanish upsweep saved now, but I pretty much just use it as a starting point for weird sounds and it constantly rotates.
There are a lot of features and sounds in there for sure.

I'm enjoying the videos, good stuff. I've only recently started to mess about with bass effects so this is most likely a dumb question; why do you have what appears to be several pedals that do the same thing? As in the MXR distortion as well as a OFD micromodeler, HOF reverb and H9 etc? I recently bought an H9 and it has a shedload of effects. 2 H9s would cover most bases. Ha.

Looking forward to a demo of the OFD. I was never interested with bass distortion but now am tempted with an OFD or Darkglass B7K.

First off, thanks! Secondly, you don't have to wait for a demo of the OFD, because I have already done one! Scroll back through this thread, or search my youtube channel and you'll find it.

In regards to your question about why I have multiples of pedals that do similar things, it basically boils down to one of two things:
  • I need quick access to a commonly used effect
  • even though similar, the multiple effects are VERY different to each other
So for instance, in regards to the Mini HOF, I use reverb pretty much every time I take a solo. And I use my left H9 for reverbs/delays. For a while I was using a preset on my H9 to be a light 'soloing' reverb. But I was getting annoyed that every time I wanted to solo I had to scroll through banks of presets. It was slowing me down. So I added the HOF to have an always ready soloing reverb.

With the MXR and OFD it boils down to wanting 3 characters of drive. I use the OFD for a light overdrive and a gated fuzz setting (for synth stuff). And I use the MXR for a higher gain overdrive/distortion. So even though they are both 'distortions' they serve very different purposes. Hope that helps!

Man, I need to stop watching your videos. Now you've got me gasing for a MXR distortion. I had a MXR overdrive that I eventually passed on. I also tryed the fuzz and didn't liked it that much. So I hadn't thought in the distortion but the LED settings sound really great. Thanks for your demos.
You're doing a great job in showing the potencial of every pedal. Not just tweeking the knobs randomly like some demos out there.
What I really like in your demos is that you're showing some pedals that you actually use and know what kind of sounds you can take from it and then it's easier to show the rest of us how they can be used musically.
Keep up the good work. ;)

Thanks so much for the compliments! I'm glad these demos are coming across as useful and helpful. I've wanted to do these demos for years!
