hey guys im new on here and heard you guys know whats up when it comes to buying gear. I have a Ibanez GSR205 5-String Bass and a peavey tnt 115 ...my band plays metal such as tesseract, i the breather, august burns red and im looking to get a pedal. I would like to be able to hear my hammer-ons better and some more punch. What would you guys recommend for my set up?? THANKS!!

ya or i was lookin at a Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI but i wanted to see what people who knew what they were talking about recommended before i spend that much money
i got a few bands and 1 of them plays djent stuff. i use a m9 currently that sorta sort out the stuff i used from a black metal to gindcore to djent

So a couple of things that can help you learn.
"stuttering" - posting an identical thread in multiple forums. Bad form, makes you look like a jerk, even if you're just very interested and want an answer.
You actually did a good job starting to say what you want which is good - better than just saying "what's good for metal?"
Honestly the biggest thing you can do is to get a better amp - you're playing LOUD music with a decent small-to-mid-size amp. More wattage and more speakers (2x12, 2x15, 4x10) will probably get you most of the way to where you want to go.
You probably also want some kind of distortion pedal. There are a LOT to choose from, and which one you want will be a matter of personal taste. Do a search here on "fuzz" "overdrive" and "distortion" (in the Effects forum). Just sit and read a bunch, and you'll learn a lot .
Honestly, though, if it was me in your situation, I'd upgrade the amp first, and get a pedal if I had cash left over - that will get you closer than doing it the other way.

maybe a compressor... but the more i play metal... the more i find "effects" tend to be more counter productive or redundant.. the less the sonic space.. the less effects should be placed on a bass.. IMO of course..
I too play metal and have just gotten into the realm of effects. I currently use a compressor, Tech21's VT pedal for tone shaping, and a small clone chorus for an intro only. All the OD, fuzz, distortion, octave, filters, phaser pedals that I have either kept or traded off are only on my board with the hope and dreams that we'll write new stuff where the can be used. Alas, there just is much room for effects in metal, so they become toys. VERY VERY VERY FUN TOYS!!!
If you want to hear hammers better, and have more punch my suggestions would be, as was already said to get a better amp. Perhaps not being able to hear hammer-ons well could be a technique issue too. You might just need to practice them more?
a compressor helps and if you get a distortion pedal a noise suppressor also will help dail in your distortion. problem ive had is i havent found a distortion pedal heavy and crunchy enough that dosent turn the bass to mud.
BTW, I am totally support the advise on a bigger rig. I think your main problems is, or you will find it to be, lack of headroom to do what you want clearly. Bigger/better amp/cab = cleaner tone at louder volumes.
I will also pile on to the larger amp train, unless you aren't really competing for volume.
What does your EQ signal shape look like? Increasing the Low mid frequencies can really go a long way to cutting through and getting MOAR definition from each note.
