Pedal order & headphones?

Hi,

I'm guessing I know the answer to this already but just wanted to confirm this was the case.

I have a Zoom B3 and for practicing I was just using Bass > B3 > Headphones and this works fine.

I have a Boss OC2 if I put this this before the B3 it works fine but if I put this after the B3 I get very low odd sound practically nothing.

I'm guessing the B3 has to be at the end of the chain if i'm using headphones and not an Amp? As the B3 acts like the amp and generates the signal strong enough to drive the headphones, but if I put the OC2 after it doesn't work the same so it takes the signal but then does nothing to boost it as it moves onto the headphones?

I was using OC2 into the B3 and using fuzz on the B3, but then I wanted to put the B3 first to use a compressor on the signal before I passed it to the OC2 to assist the tracking.

Is this correct or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?

The B3 is acting like a headphone amp. So you can run effects into it, but not after it. So it will be basically impossible (unless it has an effects loop - sorry I don't have a B3) to use effects on it into your other effects and still use it as a headphone amp.

Why not just using the OC model from the B3 ?

you want to run the octaver in front anyway, they track much better at the front of a chain

I was under the impression it was best to go Bass>Compressor>Octave>Dirt>Anything else?

Regarding the Octave on the B3 I had read the sound doesnt really match up to an OC2, and the analog octave has much better tone.

I only received by OC2 in the post yesterday from Ebay so not had that much time to mess about with it yet.

I think the best thing would be to get a Compressor pedal then I could go Bass > Compressor > OC2 > B3 > Headphones

And I could then have the OC2 dealing with distortion plus anything else like Envelope filters, Amp sims reverb etc?

Wildman while studying up on equipment always remember to try it your self. Ime the octaver on the B3 is damn good plus you can always add a pitch shifter to it for mucho phatness.

I had tried the octave on the B3 I was just trying to get a more synthy sort of sound out of the octave and most of the things I was reading about the OC2 were saying that was the sort of sound it could produce. It was a video where someone used an OC2 into a mf101 that had got me onto octaves to begin with.

Your effects chain - as listed above - is perfect. That will work just fine.

There is some ooey gooey analog magic in te OC2 I will agree but I do prefer wotking with the Zooms for the tracking. Don't overlook the magic of the synth sounz on the B3, takes a bit of worh but there are some amazing sounds.
