Hold on. I agree that the portrait thing with black framing sucks but I swear that I have had phones where the playback does not seem to be correlated to the way I held phone while recording. In fact, sometimes I think it has been opposite. I just made a test recording w this phone, S7, holding it vertically and then horizontally and then played back on phone and both look fine... both fill the whole screen without that irritating letterbox thing. What gives? Would it appear different if played back on computer? Is there a setting which determines this stuff or is it just in the way you hold the phone?

Right. You can hold the phone however you want, and as long as you hold the phone the same way in playback, it'll be fine. But most of us don't have TVs that switch orientations to accommodate portrait videos from cell phones. Yes, it will appear different if you use another playback device.

Unrelated, but on the same level of stupid, are people who take pictures(and sometimes videos)in crowds at concerts with the flash on. As if it’s going to illuminate the stage. You’d think they’d get it after several results of perfectly lit portraits of the back of people’s heads, but noooo. With all of all the heinous things having gone on at concerts lately, it occasionally spooks me when there’s a sudden burst of light off to my side or behind me.
