Performer bass name

It is off-putting to me for Fender to use "performer" with a Fender Mustang because THE Fender Performer bass is so iconic (wish I had one).
That's just me and of course YMMV, but it grates me. It is like bringing out the Ford Pinto again and naming it the Ford Mustang.

Doesn't matter to most of the public, but I'm with you. Happens all the time, like bringing back the Mitsubishi Eclipse...as an SUV.

Not as bad as EBMM/SBMM and the Sterling Model bass confusion- imagine if they named Sterling version of the Sterling model bass the same way they did with the EBMM version (instead of the Sterling SB14) ? - Sterling by Ernie Ball Sterling bass. Also not quite sure if using the "SUB" name was a good idea, some may be thinking "substandard" when they see that.
But yes, I agree. There are many other words in the English language Fender could have been used for the "Performer".

Not to mention Fender's evolving use of name components such as "Elite" and "Special."

Agree. Hopefully it won’t devalue the original Performer (I bought one new in 1985 and still have it).

I actually haven't played the thing in 20 years or more. I rehearsed with it, recorded 8 songs with it, then bought a Ric and never touched it again; it still looks like new. It was actually my first bass and I bought it on a whim; I was a guitar player at the time. I just happened to walk into my local music store and there it was by the door marked down to $250, the owner couldn't get rid of it fast enough. If you go on the WikiPedia page you'll see it. It was my first ever edit of WikiPedia.

Very generous! It has to have deprecated a lillte since 1985. That’s why I like the TB community.

The original Performer is a Bass of unparalleled loveliness.

I found this feeling sorry for itself and hidden under a layer of sticky dirt in the corner of a practice room in the early 90s. I paid £80 for it, as it was totally unwanted and unloved.
