I often do fairly quiet gigs where I could get away with not using an amp but would like to hear myself just a bit better so I go amplified. I have a GK MBE150 which is nice but is overkill for these gigs as I barely have the amp turned up at all - just enough so that there is some sound pointing towards me. As portable as the GK is lugging 25lbs in a shoulder bag around NYC gets painful and it would be nice to find something more suitable for the gigs which require just a bit of filling. This has me thinking about a small monitor like Roland's cm-30. I assume something this small would be worthless for bass but I'm curious if anyone has used this or something like it.

I use a Yorkville Y110M monitor and it works great!
I disconnected the tweeter horn to keep only the woofer working.
It gives a clearer tone than a dedicated bass cab but I see this as an advantage as I hear the pitch better.

I have a cab I'd like to do this to but was worried about the changing ohm.

In another thread i described using a galaxy powered hot spot,
for a outdoor gig and some almost acoustic gigs for the same reasons. it is similar to the Roland's cm-30 .
I like the idea of roland 's coaxial speaker (being a wizzy fan) and roland EQ looks better than the hot spot.
