Correct me if I am wrong but the Fender Mustang was never meant to be a top of the line Fender bass, it was meant more as a budget-priced student bass. Fender has changed a lot since then, there aren't any made in America budget Fenders anymore. That is the purpose of their MIM and Squier lines. It would make more sense for Fender to continue making the Squier Mustangs or start making a MIM version. It keeps in the spirit of the original and might actually be priced right to sell.
