Double Bass Phil Jones Combos - Which One?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the D4 after you've had a chance to put some time on it.
Hopefully it will arrive before rehearsal on Wednesday
I have been using one on a restaurant gig with a pianist and found it to be more than adequate. Last night I experimented with placement and ended up with it facing the wall. With the speakers two inches from the wall, it loaded the wall in a similar way the AI combos load the floor and it sounded much bigger and more natural than it does on its own. Try it.
That's an excellent idea. I'll definitely try it.
The Double Four with a preamp is pretty sweet if size is an issue. I have not heard the new version and would love read a review from someone. I've never done it, but I think you can power it with a laptop battery if that's of interest.
This isn't the new BG80 version. It's the BG75.

I have a pair of BG400s and a pair of C4s. The BG400 has 4 five inch speakers and runs 300+ watts to them. With DB this is perfect for any bluegrass or acoustic jam or gig. If I add a C4 it now is 8 speakers and 500 watts. The frequency response if really good for DB.

I have played Senior Center type gigs with the pair along with drums, electric guitar and horns. There was no problem keeping up.

Since I have two sets, I have actually played country gigs with both sets. Thats 16 speakers and 1000 watts. Why do I have two sets? I have problems hauling an upright DB and big bass cabinets. The PJBs are 14” cubes and can be placed around the bass in the SUV so all fits. With this setup I can play 4 or 8 or 12 or 16 speakers and have 300, 500, 600 or 1000 watts available.

(For the record I have a serious Berg setup and an electric 5 string to play with the big boys when needed. )

I have a PJB called the Briefcase. Its 100 watts into 2 five inch speakers. This thing has a motorcycle battery installed that runs the amp for about 1.5 hours at bluegrass volume. Perfect for outdoor “on the porch” type gigs. If needed I can use the weed wacker batteries with an inverter and run for several hours when needed. (No there is no weed wacker strings on the bass.)

I just started doing this with my Double-Four and the tone is much more woody and natural sounding, using a single Bass Max pickup.

I do this from time to time including the other night when my MAS 16 just wasn't giving me the fullness I wanted.
The wall helped a lot!
