Philly area bassist lounge

Good luck with that! Haven't played at Bourbon & Branch - couple of projects looked at it.
But Saturday I'm jamming with a guy to see if we want to proceed with a project we've talked about, and Sunday I have my premiere with a new project at Laurita's Winery in NJ so after I'm back from Saturday's jam I'll have to go practice some more...

Thanks! And best of luck on your debut.

I don’t live local anymore, but 20 years ago I was gigging all over the city. Trocadero, North Star, Khyber, dozens of other places I don’t even remember anymore... I need to come back for a visit at some point in my life! I have been Jonesing for a Philly pretzel and some local lagers.

Probably also all closed. Man, sorry to be a downer but I played at all those places many times (I believe I played the very last live-music show at the Troc). It makes me very sad. I miss all those venues very much.

Wow, moving back to the city in a few months after years of being away on the other side of the country.

Bummer we have lost these places

Decided to take a trip down the memory lane via a google image search, and I came across this. God knows when this was from - one of my favorite venues though. Good times!

Yep, heard about all that. Used to play at the Middle East, and some coffee shop out on the Main Line too, wanna day Ardmore. And the Rusty Nail. Never played at Brownies but not sure if they’re still around. There were some great places in Reading and Harrisburg and Lancaster too. Is the Chameleon still open?

I was an early patron of The Standard Tap and Monk’s Cafe, I think they’re still around. I’d hit those up for sure. But now I’m steering outside of live venues...

Just remembered- it was called The Point, formerly the Main Point. Played there many times. Last time with Kurt Vile and Adam Granduciel, about a year before the first War On Drugs album. I had already moved to CA but flew band for that show, which was an original KV and The Violators reunion.

Brownie's is now theInvalid Link Removed.

There are still some solid Philly venues, like Bourbon & Branch, Kung Fu Necktie, Johnny Brenda's, and others. Northern Liberties and those areas.

Johnny Brenda's is a good place to see a band. (Horrible lighting for photography though.)

The point became Milkboy. It was a coffee house and a venue for small bands, and it was right around the corner from Milkboy studios. Milkboy opened a new venue in Philly maybe 5 years ago, and a year after that sold the place and changed the name to Melodies. Decent enough space. But they went out of business maybe 3 years ago....
