It's pretty hip using contemporary and traditional music to teach piano pedagogy.
I have been playing piano in church for years and I wanted to use this to fill in some gaps. So I went all the way back to rookie level . Figuring that if i leave no stone unturned I will fill in the gaps. Well I stumbled upon something. Called fifty famous melodies. Things like fir Elise brothers from pear harbor one day from pirates of the Caribbean and jesu by Bach.
Simple to play on the piano but somewhat different to find these melodies accross positions on the bass. Not difficult but not so automatic for me.
Suddenly I was confronted with an opportunity to cross train.
For example play melody of brothers than play the chordal outline
Or play jesu melody then play the accompaniment.
You are working on reading retention and technique articulation lyrical touch. As well as familiarizing yourself with a listening list
When was in conservatory before dropping out. We had these listening lists that were about fifty songs you had to be able to identify.
This is a crucial part of being a musician not just knowing songs that you like but getting to know the music that everyone likes even if it's just to know of it and recognize it
And have played it on your instrument ,
Well enough time to get back to it.
