People can get totally turned off by 6-strings if they play one where the measurements aren’t to their liking, such as too wide at the nut or too narrow at the bridge, etc. All the little things you might not care about on a 4 get amplified on the 6. Do you have any preferences that you know of yet?

My turnoffs are a really thick neck, and really wide string spacing. I played around with the LTD in a shop once and it felt pretty good, but you make a great point. I have to find a way to play more 6ers before I buy.

I would take a look at any Ibanez Soundgear basses you can find then, both new or used. In general they are thin-necked with tight spacing and are some of the easiest playing budget sixers out there.

Also avoid the Spector Legend 6- affordable but has a very round neck.

What scale length are you looking for? This can be just as important as string spacing and neck profile. I regularly play a 34” Carvin LB76 and the B string is every bit as tight as my 35” Spector. I also play a 34” Yamaha 5 string and the B string is just as tight. I personally haven’t experienced the floppy B string some write about (34” is 97% of 35”). IMHO look for the scale length you’re most comfortable with.
