Pick up question

I'm starting a new build and have purchased a emg tw40. Can this stand alone or should I pair it with a single coil "jazz style" pup in the neck position. Also active or passive?

If I recall it's a pickup that can be switched either dual coil or single coil. Its active, you can use it stand alone or with another pickup. The wiring the pickup comes with will probably be setup standalone.
