Picked up a VM Jazz from craigslist

New bass day! Picked up a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz in natural off of a guy on craigslist. Its in pretty great shape except for the pick guard has some pick scratch on it, but that's to be expected (he was a guitar player). He said he bought it about a month ago and is moving now

I'd been looking to get one of these for a while now, and this just happened to be the right price: $145

anyway, TB tells me that the bridge might need to be upgraded...but i'm gonna keep things stock for now.

I'm not sure if i like this knot in the fingerboard, but whatever.

Nice bass. I really lke mine, too. I wouldn't change the bridge, I think it's just fine as is, but that's me.As far as that knot goes, if it doesn't affect how it plays or sounds, when it starts to bug you, just remember how much you paid for it.

+1000 for leaving the bridge right where it is! The hardware is just fine and the p'ups are sufficiently hot for the job.

I did add a few goodies to mine and have two more to go::

The PG is for a '62 Fender Jazz although I also know the Deluxe Jazz PG will fit just as well.

Knobs on order and I'm going for a DeMarzio custom Push/Pull pot for the p'ups.

Put on some good strings (Elixir Nanos are really great on this bass) and play it until your fingers fall off.

I think the VM-Jazz is somewhat overlooked as a great piece of equipment - it has good musical tone, a goodly amount of p'up-output and it's a real looker too.

What I'm doing to mine is just changing a few things that are mostly external - not a full-blown mod by any means. Er - I will be changing the wiring just a smidgen for the p'ups, but then it stops there.

I have no need to change the bridge or the p'ups as they are more than good - same with the tuners, unless weight was a big problem which at 9lbs, 4ozs. isn't all that bad.

The VM Jazz is a fantastic bass, not just for the money. I agree with SurferJoe on the Elixirs, they really bring out the clarity in the Duncan Designed pickups. The bridge is fine, I prefer threaded saddles but that's really more a personal preference.

That's probably the best. Play it for a good while before you think of modding or upgrading anything.
As to the case, that's exactly what I was thinking of getting for mine, the MG tweed case, for the same reason. I even have it on my Musician's Friend wish list!
