Pickguard

Hey Talkbass,
Just a quick question...
I have a black matte finish pickguard and I'm thinking of spraying it with a clear coat to
to give it some sheen. I was wondering if anyone has done this OR if anyone has any other ideas...

Clear coat probably won’t get you where you want to be. You probably would have better results polishing it with car polish products and buffing wheels on a drill.

Personally, my time is worth just getting one made or buying one if it’s a common make.

Agreed. ^^^

The other name for a pick-guard is scratch-plate. It is there to protect the clear-coat finish on your instrument.
I think spraying clear-coat on your pick-guard will let you see why they sometimes call it by the other name.
