Picking Between Basses(Squier Bullet Vs. Squier Affinity)

Hey folks, I haven't posted in awhile. I'm in the market for a new bass. Now, no discrimination here please. I'm trying to pick between a Squier Affinity Series Jazz OR a Squier Bullet Jazz. I've played some newer affinity models and they seem awesome. I found some cheap bullet models on ebay selling new for 159/169 opposed to 179.99 for a new affinity. Which is better? Now keep in mind, I have owned and played many quality basses in the past, I just don't have much experience in this area. Let me know, thanks!

Yes I have another account on here. I have owned 2 Mexican Fenders, a few Vintage Modified models, and have borrowed American made gear from some friends. I'm struggling financially at the moment. I've been playing for 6 years and personally enjoy the Affinity models..I've never owned or played a Bullet Jazz bass.

well, i have a bullet strat and the quality is OK, dunno bout the basses, if you can afford a Squier vm used it wouldn't be too much more, coz they are meant to be really good,probably mim fender good.

I love The CV and VM Squiers and I will FOR SURE be getting one if I can manage to swing it.I personally prefer both over an MIM Fender(unless it's an older MIM, then I may change my mind)

I haven't found a lot of useful info about the bullet basses so now it's either going to be an Affinity, CV or VM(obviously these are preferred over the affinity any day of the week, but we'll have to see).

There's nothing wrong with MIM Fenders. In my experience, it seems like the older MIM's are of better quality(maybe that's just because of quality control nowadays?) or maybe they just had poor setups, either way. If I found a good deal on an MIM I would swing it. I would almost always rather buy used vs new and shiny just because of the quality. "They don't make em' like they used to" is a quote I believe in, lol.

I have a 1992 MIM Fender Jazz and I agree that the quality is much better than what I pick up in GC today. However that being said, I also have Squier Vintage Modified and a Peavey Foundation w,Super Ferrite pickups. I took all 3 to a gig last night and the Foundation sounded and played much better than the MIM or VM. I suggest to the OP to look at his local Craiglist and see if a Foundation may be for sale. Much better bass for about the same money.

Why does "used USA Peavey" always have to be the answer in threads like this? I mean, I know it is the right answer, but still... ;)

You answered your own question.

I've been thinking about selling my Peavey for a several months, but every time I compare it something else in the less than $1000 range it takes away that urge to sell. The Squiers especially play and sound like a cheap bass(sorry SX owners,but they do too no matter how much you mod them). The Foundation is more pro quality. My Foundation has been my main gigging bass for more than a year.

Hello. Thanks for all input. Against my better judgement...I purchased an affinity jazz with a 2 year plan after playing with it at the store for about an hour along with an MIM jazz. I have a really nice sounding amp and I believe it will sound gorgeous through my amp. I would have liked an MIM Fender or one of the others I mentioned. I think that this guy will be a happy member of my family.
