Picks used in the 60's

Does anybody knows which picks were used in the 60's to play bass?

We used the same kind of picks - celluloid, plastic, or felt - guitar picks. But you couldn't find them textured or drilled, and we didn't have the plethora of brands. I used the tort Fender picks that look the same today.

Was it easy to play with the available picks by then according to the gauge, not to mention the string gauge? I can imagine most of the bass players breaking their picks due to the lack of heavier picks such as the Jim Dunlop's 2mm. which are available mowadays.

Were the Herco Flex 75 the best pick at the time?

I remember when I started playing in the early 80's in a small town with an old musicstore (flatwounds only), I was sold very different picks from what is used today. Very thick and big and with a small angle that allowed you to kind of stabilize it with your thumb.
