I just got my first 6 string bass, a Spector Legend 6. I haven't really heard anything good about the Tone Pump Jr preamp and the EMG HZ pickups. I don't really know anything about preferred pickup brands or preamps for 6 strings, so I am wondering what people would suggest. I would like to stay with passive pickups and a preamp vs active pickups.
1. I have built and worked on tons of guitars so doing the mods myself isn't an issue.
2. I'm not really worried about the cost of the pickups or the preamp. I got a really good deal on the bass.
3. I would like to add a mid control vs. just Treble and Volume. I don't mind drilling an extra hole for the mid pot, that's not a big deal.
4. The music I listen to tends to be 90s alternative/Grunge, 70s Rock, Jazz and Metal. so I would like a well all around tone vs. a one trick pony.
