Double Bass Pickup feedback on a Standup bass

Hi there,
Sorry if this has already been covered and I missed it, but I recently installed some pickups on my standup bass. The pickups work, but I can't turn up the volume of my amp too much without getting a bunch of feedback. Just curious about what I can do to get a clear louder sound.

Hi Leif, and welcome on TB!
It's always a good idea to fill in some info into your profile:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile

That way, people can easily check your gear, setup, tastes, etc. and provide more helpful ideas, without the need to ask "what are you playing?", etc...

The Newbies link sticky thread is very helpful for new members.
This thread gives a link to a feedback thread:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95276

However, you can also use the search engine in the forum to find tons of info!

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
François

Post more details on exactly what you are using (pickup, bass, amp, cab) and I'm sure someone (or two or three) will offer suggestions.
Congratulations! You have just taken the first step on a path that has driven most other bassists to the brink of madness, including myself. The good thing about this for you is that most everybody has experience and most everybody has an opinion on the subject.
Good luck!

Leif -- I think this is probably the single most discussed topic on TalkBass, so there's lots of material in the archived threads. But as others have said, if you give us more info on the type of pickup, strings and amp you're using, and what situations this occurs in (playing alone, playing with a small group, big band, all of the above, etc.), it will help us help you.

It does depend on your set up, pre-amp and also i guess space.. A simple quick way, not nessessarily the 'Right' way, is to just work out what note is the feedback...once you work that out, you can work out what frequency the feedback is.. and depending on what sort of EQ you have on your amp or Eq pedal, lower that frequency until it eases up.

Thats just a simple quick way of dealing with it...
