I'm looking for some recommendations for a pickup for my 1951 American Standard upright. I have tried one of the Gage Realist SoundClip pickups. I've also tried a clip-on Audio-Technica ATM-350 microphone. I don't like either one on this bass.
I used a Fishman Full Circle, on my old Knilling and it worked well. I also have a Full Circle on my carved Calin Wulter bass. It works well there, too. I once tried a standard Realist pickup on the Knilling and I just got a lot of feedback. It did not work well on that bass at all. I've also got a K&K pickup with stick on dots for each string and the transducer that wedges into a bridge wing. That works well on my 1890s unknown (German?) 5/8 flatback.
Should I just go with a Fishman Full Circle, or has someone used something else that worked well on their American Standard laminate bass? I'll mostly be playing pizzicato on this bass - probably bluegrass type music. Likely little arco.
