Pickup - wiring diagram for dummies

Tried looking at the FAQ but didn't find anything related. Is there some guide somewhere for dummies? I have a P/J set, a soldering iron, the diagram, and no idea where to start. I'd recommend this drawing & controls layout:

only I'd use 500K Ohm pots, specifically two linear taper for the volumes & one audio taper for the treble cut (tones) pot

If you would prefer not the have the extra brightness & output of the 500K Ohm pots, go ahead & use 250K Ohm pots.

I didn’t read between the lines and even consider that you might have a VVT layout in your bass while the Aguilar diagram you posted is a VBT layout....I just posted another VBT diagram...

VVT is fine. I suppose the components are standard, so I can use the same wiring as in the SD diagram. There's an extra cable to ground from the J-pickup. I guess it should be soldered together with the others.
