Double Bass pickup???

Hi talkbass
I´m playing a Eberle from 61 over a amp one from AER. The amp and the bass is great, but i want a new pickup. The one I currently use is a homemade (but good) piezo pickup that sounds a little like the wilson pickup. But its not the sound that I want. I want that "dark-wood-like a mic" sound.

Any good ideas?
Maybe the realist?

Ps: I need a pickup thats good for both arco and pizzicato style.

Kristian,
Well, the AER amplifiers have a wonderful sound and great EQ. I'd say there are two possibilities here if you want that mic sound with a pickup. Certainly the Realist will give you that "dark wood like a mic" sound and they are reasonably priced. I used one for over 10 years and was very happy with the sound. I recently replaced my Realist with an Ehrlund pickup it's more expensive than the Realist and has it's own little pre amp, so it costs twice what the Realist does. IMHO it's well worth the difference, because it sounds twice as good and just sticks to the top of the bass. If you could find one in you're area that has one, go and check it out.

The Realist is exactly what you are looking for.
I use mine for my on stage sound, and have a K&K Golden Bullet mic for the front-of-house if need be.
Not only sounds great, but has low impact on an upright's looks (as I hate the looks of too many added gear & cables everywhere).
Although, if you play in really loud bands; look elsewhere... Not for the rockabilly cat who cranks it up!

+1

This should probably be on the Realist package as a warning.
When you have to crank the volume on the pickup the tone quality changes and it looses the nice, dark woody sound. Granted ,most jazz players don't play that loud, but if you do than the Realist won't work for that at least it doesn't for me.
