Pickups for 2006 warwick corvette

I recently got a 2006 corvette standard fretless, thing is incredible. It has the standard mec passive pickups. I'm looking into to getting passive/active pickups with preamp. I've been looking around and emg and bartolini both advertise great expectations.lol.
The bass is definitely growly but I want more low and mid. I think just switching it to active will make it sound much better. Specifically I'm just wondering who has changed pickups on this specific bass. Ovangkol, bubinga,Wenge. Like I said it has that signature warwick growl but it's just kinda puny I guess. I have a maple neck corvette with actives that sounds great but not as growly. So i just want this bass to be growly and punchy. Thanks for your input.

I've got an '03 and installed Wilde (Bill Lawrence) J45 passive pickups. Probably a different tone than what you're looking for, but I greatly prefer them to the MECs. J45s are aircore noiseless, even across the frequency spectrum, fairly punchy, but, to my ears, somewhat reduced in output (however watts and boost pedals are cheap these days).
