Pickups in Geddy

ya i was searching the net, and i read that you had Dimarzio Model One pups on your Geddy, but that looks like a humbucker instead of J's.. hmmm - i just love how that bass looks!! (Geddy with the ivory j's and the b/w/b pickguard) - gonna go copycat on ya, but thought i'd ask about pups first... active or passive?
** i think the stock Fender Geddy pups are VERY passive, but i run it through the Tech 21 VT deluxe pedal which livens it up a bunch!

jmj-will you mod the Geddy's with Aguilar pups? I heard they are offering a new 70's model j pup soon...
Maybe one of them, sure. But the Model J's are a very unique beast altogether. I don't know if anyone will ever make something as particular as that, so I will always have at least one bass with those.
I have never tried the Model J's - what makes them so unique?
When I saw you with NIN I remember loving the tone out of this bass, but live tone is such a tricky thing, it's impossible what to know is bass/effects/amps/FOH stuff and so on.

I went and put them in my Geddy too (I have Ultra Jazzes in another J which are quite different--more scooped, very deep).
I found the Model Js, while not entirely "classic Jazzbass" sounding, made that bass REALLY versatile, if only 'cause the mids make it work in contexts where perhaps a P would be more the obvious choice, but it still does the J thang.
