Pickups Robert deleo uses in his basses

Hello,

I subscribed to this forum because I really want to find out which pickups Robert Deleo uses on his basses. I know he has probably used many pickups during his career. I would specifically like to know which pickups he used in his live gear and on the first few albums. He has this nice deep and fat tone. Any help would be appreciated :)

I also think he uses seymours. His signature basses carry SPB-2 and SJB-2. However, I saw quite a few reviews complaining about the dull tone coming from these signature basses. That doesn't sound like his tone at all... Is SPB-1 better than 2?

No better or worse, just different.

Robert works (or worked) for Schecter, I am kind of surprised he doesn't use their in-house pickups.

Remember that tone can never be attributed solely to pickups. There are many other factors at work, all of which combine to form a system: strings, instrument wood, instrument construction, pickups, tone circuits, amplifier topology, amplifier settings, cabinet response, cabinet placement, cabinet combinations, room response, and (perhaps most important and elusive) the player's technique.

On core he used a schecter Jazz he built for himself, and his live rig was an alembic f1-x (sounds like the deep switch was on and the highs above 5 for that crazy bassman grind) with eden XLT cabs. I imagine he used those in the studio as well. It doesnt say what the pickups are but I bet they were stock schecters -- really good pickups.

The PJ and hollowbody stuff came later.

i can believe that, i always found the duncan model "2" ("hot") fender-style pickups to just sound dark.

his signature shecters (at least the import "diamond series" that i've seen) were really heavy and had the P and J kinda pushed back towards the bridge; if they were indeed duncan "2"s, i could see that mitigating the dullness.

I have the Duncan SPB1 and SPB2......SPB1 pretty much standard vintage P bass style tone.

SPB2 is much hotter, more gain and mids....indeed it is dark...a bit noisier too.

SPB2 is not a typical vintage P tone at all but I can get them fairly close with a LOT of EQ adjustment.
