Pinback / Zach Smith

Hey guys,

I am new here but have played for many years. I play a similar style as Zach Smith. A bass/guitar type hybrid. I know his guitar Alembic (way to expensive for me) but I am wondering what his other set-up entails. I need that crisp high end sound without the metal twang. Let me know if anyone know.

i think he boosts his mids intetionally yeah? i've seen him live a few times but I'm not sure of his other setup. he just had the alembic when i've seen him

I was listening to the new album today, more of the same but zach's tone is great. Found this pic of his rig, is he still using the same rig? Does anyone no more about it? It's obviously a GK amp and speakers but the rest of it? How much would the Alembic play a roll in the sound?

Yes, I've never seen him playing anything but an Alembic, but I've never seen them live, so maybe he mixes it up on the road?

Nah, bass, amp, and compressor are the biggest parts of his main tone after his playing style.

+1 -- i have a GK MB500 and 115RBH and the same compressor he uses. with my Chowny SWB1, I can get pretty close. Though there is an Alembic sheen on his highs that I can't quite match - think songs like Crutch... looking into how to get that sound.

Zach shared some of video of him doing Pinback's songs...this is low key, him and a drum machine but I think it sounds incredible
