Double Bass pinched G string

I'm getting a pinched sound for lack of a better term from my g string. Just sounds thinner and twangier than it did on my old bass.
The string is an Evah orch and I've tried helicore and belcanto with the same result.
question is... Is there a common setup issue with the bridge or nut that causes this?
the problem occurs whether I'm playing open or closed so I don't think it's the FB.

String balance issues are probably sound post relationship to the bridge. Which needs to move is moot without a bit more information. Is the bridge in the canonically right place, what are the after lengths tuned to?
