Pino Palladino's 2019 board

I found a video of Pino Palladino's board while recording The Who's 2019 WHO and thought some of you might be interested.

* Origin Effects Cali 76 Compact Bass
* Boss OC-2 (x2)
* 3 Leaf Audio You're Doom
* MXR Bass Envelope Filter
* MXR Sub Octave Bass Fuzz
* Malekko B:ASSMASTER
* Strymon Zuma

Looks like he swapped his full-size Cali 76 for the compact version and his Emma Discombobulator for the MXR Bass Envelope Filter (as well as his Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus for the Strymon Zuma).

Very cool. I wonder if he’s trying to nail a specific sound with so many octaves and fuzzes and only a few of them connected and all of them haphazardly placed on the board. I’m curious if he uses his foot on that speedknob on the sideways OC2? I don’t have an oc2 so maybe that’s not really useful and it’s just a replacement knob... :yawn: hope there’s an “in action” video soon! :thumbsup:

The Malekko Diabolik is a smaller variant of the B:Assmaster:

Thanks! I've actually seen a video in which Pino's son, Rocco, has the Diabolik on his board.

I believe those are replacement knobs on the OC-2 as I don't see why he would use his foot to control them. I've seen pictures from 2015 and 2017 in which his OC-2 has those knobs. I've read here and elsewhere that his OC-2 settings are: Oct. 2: 0; Dry: 100; Oct. 1: 100.

It looks like he's only signal patching in a few things at a time, although powering everything up. The OC-2's are notorious for being buffered bypass and I wonder if he's worried about signal purity. I'm guessing his pair of OC-2's have different settings dialled in...but they are there also for pedal redundancy. It's interesting to see three octaves and three fuzzes there. The Your' the Doom and B:assmaster are very specific Fuzzes, he's obviously aiming for some specific bass synth tones with this board. The MXR is a very simple to dial in filter and sounds great too.
