I have here a set of Bill Lawrence PJ pickups (P46 & J45) from an aborted project, and an old japanese copy of P bass with poor electronics. I think all of them are made for each other.
I have to route the body for the J pickup. After reading the posts bout that subject, the consensus seems to be :
-if one plans to use the J pickup solo to achieve a Jaco-like sound, then 60s placement is the good choice.
-if the J pickup is meant to only "flavor" the P one, then 70s position is better.
My personal choice qould be the latter (I don't like that solo bridge burpy sound)
I plan to make a V/T/3-way switch, with perhaps the possibility to run the P pickup in parallel too.
Now the questions :
Did I got it right? Or are there ohter factors to consider.
And the technical one : can some of you, with a PJ 70s and 60s can measure the distance between, let's say, the 21st fret (last one) and the middle of the pole pieces of the jazz pickup. I can't find that data online. I found it from the bridge, but mine is not the typical Fender one so the reference is not good...
