PJ pickup options - something other than a J?

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Click on gallery for more pics. You can download the electronics spec too . Mine is a slightly older spec and has, I think, a Noll pre, wired volume, blend, treble and bass with active/ passive switch on the vol. My newer JM4 has the Glockenklang pre with passive tone on the active treble pot when switched.

No clips from me as yet but there's a video on Sandberg's news page with a Sandberg PM4.

DANG.

Thats exactly what im doin to my squier....same color too.

:hmm:

This exact body now is here with me in Germany!
I bought it from someone in the USA via ebay (don't know if the person was BassLife77; but no doubt this body is the one - the wood grain is identical) and I'm using the bass quite a lot.

Now it's got a MightyMite Maple Neck, a Fender Bridge, a MusicMan Pickup coupled with an EMG 2Band-EQ and a P-PU which runs passive.

You can choose either pickup - no possibility to combine the two Pickups; but since the MM-PU is nearly exactly in the original Stingray position, this bass got quite an authentic MusicMan sound in addition to the traditional P-Sound.

I love it - in fact used it tonight on a gig near my hometown!

There is a two-way toggle switch for the pickups. The reason I did it that way is because the P-pickup is going passive to the output while the MM is running through a preamp in order to have each sound as close a s possible to the original.

In fact, I didn't try the combination of both pickups - I was just figuring that active and passive won't go together too well...

edit: only one mono output.

Yep. I'm leaning towards a traditional P/J set-up. Thinking I might run into problems with hum if I start going down the soapbar/MM route with series/parallel switches. I might not, but I don't know enough to make an educated guess.

The Nordstrand Big Splits/Fat Stacks/Dual Coils all seem like good options, and I think would visually look very cool on a Sid Vicious style P-bass, but I don't understand all the wiring options and how they would work blended with a P-pickup. Anyone know how that might turn out?

that's not my bass (yet). It's one of my projects and I'm using that pic as a reference for the luthier when he cuts out the cavity. I plan on installing a homebrew Stingray 2 band preamp and switches. If you add a switch you can combine both pickups.
