Double Bass placement of audix D4

hi everybodys,
after reading some posts (expecially the opinion of adrian cho and his nice gear explanation on his site) and speaking with sound technicians about technical specifications, I decided to try an audix D4 for amplifying doublebass live.
what is, in your experience, the best placement (position and distance from the bass), to capture the sound?
I know that depends from the bass and from my playing, but an opinion is better that none.
thankyou, tito.

I usually position the mic in front of the strings a couple of inches below the end of the fingerboard.

i like this area as well, or at the same height, but pointed at the top btwn the strings and treble side 'f' hole. If you're playing any arco just be careful to place it so you won't hit the mic w/ the bow.

anyone try the ADX20i as a clip on?
