Plan to buy an Ibanez SR250

I'm looking into getting a Bass that's going to give me a better output than my current Dean Edge bass. I've played the SR250's but I want to know from any Ibby owner of what I should look out for in the SR250 lines.

This will be my first Ibanez purchase and I want to make it my last buy

all ibanez Sr models are well built basses. Just be cautious of the bridge, people have reported that they, over time, bend and warp causing the strings to pop out.

otherwise it should be a ripper of a bass.

good luck trying not to purchase anything in the future, you'll lay your eyes on a sr5005e premium and you'll want it reall bad. i know i want one

I've owned many different Ibanez basses in the past and the sr250 is one of them. it's a pretty solid bass for the budget-minded bassist. it's also a good bass to be introduced to first time buyers of Ibanez basses besides the gsr basses(which this line Ibanez basses has some mixed opinion). I will say it's a safe buy. good sounds, decent versatility, and suitable for all genres of music. If you tried one out and do like what you hear, I'd say go for it. Ibanez makes great sounding bass guitars.

yeah I recently picked up a used sr300 and it's awesome its my beater bass but its an incredibly versatile bass that sounds great not sure what the difference between it and the sr250 but I'm sure it will be awesome the pre-amp is a little noisy on mine though

When I tried out the SR250's on the floor, the way it was set up had the D string fret buzz on me. I do notice the noisiness on the pre-amp but I usually have the amp take care of that or find a way to play with the knobs. I also hear it's best to buy em used.

Edit: I actually lurked around in this thread and found the Ibby bridge incident post so I am well knowledged of what to expect.

these ibanez can get seriously low action without buzz so I don't understand why your d would be buzzing is the action super low? if not check the frets and make sure they are level

as long as your not boosting the treble too much the noise is minimal so not a huge problem and with a bass this good for such a low price I can live with it

mines 2011 and no bridge issues so far and I doubt there will be it seems pretty solid

used is always better for low price instruments because they are even cheaper

You can get a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz or P, Sterling Ray 4 or an Ibanez Talman for the same price as the SR250. All much better sounding basses IMO. If you really want a SR you can get older higher end models for the same price used.

Something about Squier Jazz/P basses always felt heavy from the bottom and the neck isn't as thin as Ibanez's which actually got me very intrigued about Ibanez basses <3.<3

yeah I have a US fender and Japanese fenders and while they are awesome squiers don't have that slim neck on the ibanez it is awesome for a low priced bass you can't go past ibanez they play great and feel awesome and are very versatile

IMHO squiers don't come close

I had an SR300 beater for a while, I may get a backup SR305 5'er. If it was buzzing I'd look elsewhere, Ibanez makes a HELL of a bass so there must be something either maladjusted or seriously defective on that one.

Bought several used from GC's online used section with zero issues. Maybe a truss rod tweak and some saddle adjustment, but that's it.

I recently emailed Ibanez about the bridge issue on my SR 505PB. A few days later they emailed back asking for my address to ship me a new bridge. I was not the first owner of the bass. Ibanez apparently has good customer service and I think their instruments are fantastic.

Here's the brand new SR250 I don't think its that much different then the SR300 or 400 except the bridge I think, you could put the Accused Cast B-20 bridge on it.

How recent is this? I've seen them online a lot a few weeks back. I actually decided to pick up the soda burst color although while I was at Sam Ash today I played their SR650 and OMG it's so beautiful and a lot more light weight than the SR250's drooldrool

I'm a SR300 owner for the past year or so and I've got no complaints at all. Not a very heavy duty instrument so I'm not sure how well it would hold up as gigging instrument. Buddy bought a 250 to have around and for whatever reason his just pales in comparison to the 300 I have but I think it's just the way it's set up. One thing I will say, I was very patient and landed a used mint condition Fender MIM P about a month ago for $60 less than I paid for the SR300 new and there is no comparison in tone. The SR300 is a great bass and I don't see myself parting with it just to have as a backup, but it just can't produce the same sound as the P. After playing the SR300 for nearly 2 years it does feel a bit like I'm gripping a baseball bat playing that Fender though. (which does explain why I'm going to look at a MIM J this afternoon)

I'll add a vote for the SR300. I looked at the 250's, but the 300 just seemed to be a better instrument(sound and comfort) than the 250. But those things are subjective.
I do like that grey burst finish on the 250...

Only a couple bridge models had an issue, and only some units of those models. Th SR250 bridge and the B-20 bridge are not of those series. Note the B-20 bridge has screws thru each of the anchor sections, whereas the bridges that had issues had none in the anchor section, only in the plate.

He said it was "on the floor", so the store just had not done a setup, and probably needed a saddle adjustment.
