I love internet technology and the possibility to be your own broadcast station and reach people worldwide. Inspired by my teenage son, who watches gaming live streams (via Twitch.tv) once in a while, i came to the idea of planing a live video stream from our rehearsal space. Of course this will be a low budget experiment but with the best quality possible. Here is my brainstorming so far:
Video feed: only one camera position (a good Logitech webcam)
Audio feed: 8-channel mixdown from our mixing console/soundinterface (3 mics for drums, 2 mics for the two guitars, 1 vocal mic, 1 D.I. box for bass and 1 room mic for slight live atmosphere)
Broadcasting platforms: livestream.com, ustream.tv, YouTube live stream (Google Hangout?) or Twitch.tv
Software: Adobe Media Encoder or Open Broadcaster Software
Promotion: via Facebook, Twitter and mouth-2-mouth propaganda
PROBLEM: the only problem i see is the internet connection, our room does not have internet, so we have to do this with our smartphones or something else.
The idea behind it: as i mentioned in another thread i hate visitors/guests in our rehearsal room ... that means visitors can now stay at home and watch/hear us from their couches. Another point is to reach (new) people worldwide and interact with them during set break (chat, comments, etc.) ... we play stoner-rock (no covers!) and there are many relevant groups on Facebook where we can promote (not spam!) and could gain some new "fans". We want to play our set (9 songs, 35 mins. in total) twice or 3x. Kind of online public rehearsal and live gig at the same time.
I don´t expect many viewers for our 1st stream, i consider this as an experiment and learn from mistakes.
