Hi again.
I have a question for you.
When you mention that you've played along to a lot of CD's, then i'd like to learn a little about your approach. ;)

Did you transcripe the basslines, supposed to learning them by ear, or/and did you force yourself to come up with new lines, like to emulate a session, where you find yourself in a situation where you have to come up with something thats more subtle than "dum..dumdum..dum...dumdum.."?

And do you have any good stuff, like certain records that you've used more than others, or did you just put on any record, and played along?

Did you always try to be 100% true to the original bassline, or did you 'just' outline the general idea of the line?

And if you have some suggestions to records that you think is good stuff, please do tell.. :) I dont have alot of references when it comes to bassplayers, im better at records.. :)

and the little penta filler you do before before every verse on End of the Day is cleeeveer... :)

- I don't transcribe, I just play along. And I'll usually first learn the part, then I'll play along with new stuff.

- I have played along to anything and everything. Nothing that's utterly mandatory; well, aside from any Stax, any Motown, any Beach Boys, Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Gang of Four, Wire, Bowie, Talking Heads, Zeppelin, Roxy Music, Clash, Sabbath, Free, Abba, Serge Gainsborg, Grand Funk Railroad, Van Halen, XTC, Cheap Trick, Sly and Robbie, Cream, Joy Division, Al Green, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Al Green, Peter Gabriel, Gary Numan, The Specials, Radiohead, Miles Davis, U2, PIL, Meters, Pixies, Marley, MC5, Parliament, etc.

- I follow my instinct and have no rules about how true I have to be to the original, I tend to just play along until I feel locked into something, whether it be a mimic or just me flowing on top of it. it's not particularly analytical, I just let things happen, and hopefully they do.

- I also don't have super bass player references; I listen to records for records, not for bass players.
