Played my 1st gig with IEM's

Honestly I was very aprehensive about going with IEM's. I was worried about feeling disconnected from the crowd and frankly just don't like earbuds. I'm not using anything high end, Shure P2T, PSM200 and SE215's. Good, not great.

1st off I had no problems with the system, other than it clipping some early on till it was adjusted properly. I was able to hear everything I needed/wanted and at a very comfortable level. The thing that was most shocking was when we finished each set and I pulled the buds out was how FREAKING LOUD the room was! I couldn't believe it! The din in the room with the crowd and music in between sets hurt my darn ears. I've played around 20 gigs in this place in the last year and a half and never noticed it.

I'm sold.

This has been my experience exactly. But it's not just the volume in the room, it's the volume on stage as well (yeah we have a hard-hitting drummer and a guitarist that likes amp volume). One time the batteries went out in my wireless IEM pack and I had to finish a set (about 2 and a half songs) without them in, just going off ambient sound. The stage volume was just killing me and I couldn't believe I used to accept that as "normal".

Glad it worked out for you. Looks like we have another convert. :smug:

The funny thing is, we aren't a loud band. After that experience, I doubt I'll be going back the other way. If the room alone was that loud with everything going on, how loud is it when we're playing?

You can most assuredly put me in the list of converts.

Since I run my bass thru our PA and my cab is turned around so it doesn't project to the FOH, I certainly could. I currently use a HyDrive 410 so it doesn't weigh too much. My winter project is going to be a fEARful cab. Just have to decide on a 15/6/1 or a 12/6. I'm already playing a Genz Streamliner 900 so the head doesn't weigh anything.

I am too vain to not bring a cab and head to a gig!

I haven't sold my rig because I do the occasional small outdoor gig with no PA. But 95% of my playing is supported by a large PA and I rarely take anything other than my bass and Pedaltrain mini that I use to run my IEM setup. Love it.

Like above, what sold me on IEMs was how quiet I could run everything.

Several of my most recent gigs I have played using my IEMs and a SansAmp direct to the board. No amp onstage. I am doing this more and more #1 to simplify set-up and #2 because our band has gone to a smaller trailer to cut down the overhead (gas) on our gigs and so we've had to downsize our backline quite a bit. Our P.A. can more than handle all the bass we want to put through it and with all of us on IEMs having a bass amp on stage is kind of pointless.
